Puutake Te Wahanga Maori - James Cook Kapa Haka Roopu.

Red Hill School were one of a very lucky cluster of schools that were visited this week by - Puutake Te Wahanga Maori - James Cook Kapa Haka Roopu.

Our students were left in awe of the students after the high quality of performance that was delivered.  Our own Kapa Haka Roopu have been inspired to strive to show the same wairua, discipline and quality of performance when we perform later in the term.

As a group of students we would also like to acknowledge James Cook High School for recognising and valuing the importance of Maori Language Week. The sharing of the Maori culture with others is vital to the survival of our culture and traditions.

Red Hill School - Winners of one of the Colgate Prizes

The students and staff of Red Hill School have been collecting Colgate packets, tubes, etc to recycle as part of the Colgate Recycling Programme.

We were surprised when the school was contacted to say that we were one of the lucky winners of one of the $500.00 recycling prizes.

We are SUPER PROUD of our efforts!

We are sure that we will find a suitable set of resources to spend the money on so that all of the children can benefit from all of the collecting.

Keep collecting everyone!!!

Matariki

I believe that Matariki is the time of year when you think about the past and what you would like your future to look like.

The Seven Sisters were manipulative however they were caught out by Mitai who found out that they were patupaire. (Fairy people)

The patupaire are very special people who bring good wairua most of the time.

Compiled by Sharkita.

Character Study - Matilda

One of the key areas of focus for literacy were character profiles. This was Mykka's first slideshow experience. Her focus novel was Matilda.

Red Hill School Innovation Day

Today the staff and students took part in an Innovation Day. We took part in -

  • Science - we exploded rockets - some were really good and some fizzled out a little.
  • Arts/Technology - we made parachutes.......... they were great......although a few ended up in the trees because of the windy conditions.
  • Technic Lego/Dacta - we made machines.
Here are some snapshots of our technic lego experience.

Here are some of the machines that we made. Sharkita made a hot air balloon while Maiana made a butterfly.

SarahLee, Jemma and Ana made a transformer - their machine started as a duck and with a shift of a piece it turned into a helicopter. How clever was that!

We had an awesome time at all of the other stations too. We can't wait for the next innovation day.

Warehouse Stationery Visits Red Hill School

On Friday 19th June a team from Warehouse Stationery visited the students of Red Hill School. They brought a range of wonderful gifts to help the students in our school. Some students were given new toothbrushes, some got comb sets, some lucky children will receive a pair of school drill shorts and the Senior Students will have the opportunity to create special pieces of artwork on canvas.

Mrs Irvine, the Health Promoting Schools Team Members and the School Leaders visited the Manawaroa learning hub to share some of the wonderful items with the children. Look at their cheerful smiles.
We are very grateful for the gifts that they have provided for the students.
Thank you Warehouse Stationery!

The School Leaders Farewell Mrs Brown

The School Leaders were given the special responsibility to farewell Mrs Brown our outgoing Board of Trustees Chairperson yesterday. We had a special morning tea and the group sang for her too.

Mrs Brown was a foundation student so our school has a very special place in her heart. She has a very special place in our hearts too.

We wanted to acknowledge and thank Mrs Brown for all the work she has done to help our school to be the best that it can be. We appreciate her time, dedication and aroha for the tamariki within our school.

Thank you Mrs Brown.

Our Year 7 and 8 Whanau Open Day

Last Wednesday we had a whanau open time where adults could come into the Amua space and see how we work in our space. We use a range of digital devices alongside our books at the moment to share our learning.

It was awesome to have so many keen and willing adults work with us.

We created a google drawer document with our parents. We showed them how to work in chrome and share their work back to the teachers.

We were very proud of the hard work that the adults put in alongside us. It was neat to be able to share our classroom experience with them. We will share some of the items that we made with them shortly.

Counties Rugby Competition.

Today we had a large group of students from our school attend the Counties Zone Rugby Competition as part of the North Counties Teams.

We started the day all excited and ready to go. We all played our first game and found it challenging but a lot of fun. We tackled, took part in scrums and ran like the wind. It was very challenging.

Some of us helped the Counties Manukau Representatives to set up and pack up at the end of the day and they gave us flags and bangers to say thank you.

We had an awesome day. The Under 55 Grade and Open Grade teams came 5th. The Under 45kg team WON! They were Super Stars! Go North Counties!

Our Third Gymnastics Experience

Today we spent the afternoon at Bruce Pulman Park in the Gymnasium. We have learnt how to complete a forward roll and a backwards roll. It was very tricky so some of us will need to practise during the week so that we are prepared for our last session next week.

Roman was a super star on the beams. He balanced all away across the four beams all on his own.
We were very proud of how hard he has tried.

Miss Castle helped Teretia until she had the confidence to be on the beam on his own.
We have LOVED our gymnastics sessions............Mrs Mundy is a Super Star!

Lolly Disguises

Today a small group of students worked with Miss Paton to gather a set of statistical information in order to "practise" plotting and graphing information as we find it.

We had a bag of "Lolly Disguises". Students in their groups plotted what they had found in their bag. Matthew has shown his work using a pie and bar graph.

Screenshot 2015-05-29 at 12.29.22 PM.png

Matthew's findings -:

The tolf moustache has 5 of its type.

The Bushy mo has only 1 of its type like the hollywood
smile

The classic mo has 3 of its kind.

The Vampy teeth and country buck and kiss me quick lips
are the same .

The double buck is the same as the juicy lips.

Welcome, Welcome, School has begun,
Time for work, Time for fun.
As each day I learn with care,
I use our new motto: Learn, Create ,Share.

Everyday is a new adventure,
You don’t know what you’ll find.
Use your imagination,
Use your mind!
