Our ANZAC Poem Thoughts.

ANZAC Soldier. I will…...
I am a New Zealand soldier.
I am a warrior and a member of a team.
I serve the people of New Zealand.
I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.
I am a guardian of freedom and the New Zealand way of life.
I am a New Zealand soldier.

The Red Hill Year 7 and 8's Go Flying...

A group of Year 7 and 8 students were lucky enough to take part in a special event with the Bluelight Franklin Group. (Police working together in our Community) We flew from the Ardmore hangers to Raglan, had lunch in Raglan and then flew back to Auckland via the Coromandel Peninsula. We had a fabulous time. It was a bit scary at first but once we were moving we became more confident. It was absolutely awesome........Thank you Constable Kylie for taking us. We are truly grateful!

Our Whakatauki Challenge.

Our Whakatauki from now until the end of the term is:

Kia tau tō atawhai.
(Instil your kindness)

Kindness is one of the keywords that students have shared across the school as part of the school expectations. We want our students to know how to be kind and receive kindness from others so this proverb will help us to explain the need to extend kindness to others and others will extend kindness to you.

We are trying to catch everyone being kind. Maybe you can catch someone being kind too.

The Chocolate Muffin Challenge.

In Amua Hub we have been working together to create an animated set of slides to show how we made muffins in the microwave. The recipe said to cook for 2 minutes however our microwave was super powerful so we had to only cook them for 1 1/2 minutes because Miss Castle couldn't adjust the heat setting. Even with the hick up the muffins were yummy!

Our Mainfreight Art Challenge.

In Amua Hub we have been talking about the topics and themes that we like to read and write about. We have been creating crayon and dye pieces to show our likes instead of using words. Can you tell what we like to read about?

Lyrics Wonderful Muffins.

Riley's Chocolate Muffin Experience.

In Amua Hub we have been making 2 minute Chocolate Muffins as part of our recount experiences. We were asked to work through the process of making our muffins and share it with others. It was yum!

2017 Camp Experience - Awhitu Environmental Camp NZ

Another successful camp experience with our tamaki!

Learning, team-building, communication, strengthening friendships and creating new friends were the many highlights of the week.

The weather challenged us towards to end of the week. However this encouraged the students to learn tolerance, self-management and cooperation within and amongst themselves:

Tolerance: Having to be confined in their cabins and to learn social interaction, even with students they do not regularly interact with.
Self-Management: Preparing and organising their belongings and property. Making attempts at drying their clothing, hanging their clothing in areas where they knew there would be wind and sun but not rain. Making make-shift clotheslines on chairs, patches of sunlight that would beam through the windows occasionally to dry their clothing.
Cooperation: Assisting those who were 'lazy' in positive and constructive ways. Instructing them to do things in a particular way, and if all failed, they would call their teachers.

All in all a great week and an enjoyable time. A well required rest needed by the students and the staff at the end of the week.

Amua Camp 2017.

Our Year 7 and 8 students have returned from a very successful camp experience. A special thank you to Ms Kereopa for all of her hard work to shape, organise and lead this year's camp. It was a very special event this year and one that I am sure that the students will remember for a long time. She and her team including Granny Hetaraka, Miss Parker and Matua Hemi ran a tight ship at camp. The school is also very grateful for the generosity of the Highwire Trust and their support of the camp and also the Whitehouse Tavern Trust who also provided financial assistance to ensure that this experience was able to go ahead.

Our School Values.

This year we have five core school values that we are focussing on and building -:

Respect Honesty Co-operation Tolerance Responsibility

Each of these are equally as important and underpin our school principles for the year. Students will be discussing these in classrooms and sharing at home as part of their weekly homework. We encourage whanau to share their ideas about our values with their children and the school would welcome feedback.

At Red Hill School - We are our own Taonga. (Treasure).

We are working with students to reshape how we think about ourselves and our learning. One of the key statements we are working on is -

File:Basket (splint), Nauset ...

At Red Hill School - We are our own Taonga. (Treasure).

We are working with students in four key areas -
Taha tinana (Physical health)
- physical growth and development.

Taha wairua (Spiritual health)
- faith and wider communication. Unseen and unspoken energies.

Taha whānau (Family health)
- to belong, to care and to share

Taha hinengaro (Mental health)
- to communicate, to think and to feel

We encourage whanau to share their ideas about how the school can continue to encourage our children to value themselves for the treasure that they are and the positive impact they can have on and with others.

2016 - PRIZEGIVING

The 2016 Prizegiving was held on Friday 9th December from 11am. There were several items and many happy students who were awarded for their hard work.

We are very proud of all the award winners!

Year 8's Prepare for Graduation

The Year 8 students are preparing for their last week at Red Hill School. Everyone is part of an item that is going to be shared on Monday night so every moment to practise is important.

We have all learnt to waltz so that we can dance with our mum's and dad's as well as dance to our "Happy" song.

We are all excited about 2017 when we will be off to High School. We can't wait!

Our Rainbows End Experience.

The Year 5-8 students were lucky enough to be able to attend the Rainbows End Reward Trip a fortnight ago. Although it rained for most of the day we made the most of the rides that we were able to take part in.

By noon the weather had fined up and a whole lot of schools had already left. This gave us the run of the park so we had several rides on all of the attractions. It was awesome!
